Why Choose RMxAA for Your Next Star Formation Paper?

Dear colleagues,
The Revista Mexicana de Astronomía y Astrofísica (RMxAA), founded in 1974, continues its long-standing role as a peer-reviewed, scientist-run journal serving the international astronomical community. Since its predecessor, the Boletín del Observatorio de Tonantzintla, the journal has historically published influential work across astrophysics, from early observations of Herbig–Haro objects by Guillermo Haro — foundational for the study of star formation — to the several public releases of the photoionization code Cloudy.
At a time when publication costs in major journals have increased substantially, often transferring significant open-access fees to authors and institutions, RMxAA, administrated by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), remains committed to operating as a scientist-run, open access journal with no charges in any part of the editorial process. Our aim is to provide a rigorous, accessible venue for high-quality astronomical research without financial barriers to authors.
In recent years, RMxAA has implemented several changes to strengthen its role in the international astronomical community. These include the appointment of new editors-in-chief, Irene Cruz-González and Carlos Román-Zúñiga, who have promoted a modernized submission system, an expanded editorial board, updated LaTeX templates (including Overleaf support), and the immediate online posting of accepted manuscripts. As always, the journal maintains a strong refereeing process focused on constructive, technically serious reports that improve the scientific quality of submissions.
We would be pleased to consider manuscripts from the star formation community — observational, theoretical, or numerical — and particularly welcome work that benefits from careful technical review and rapid dissemination without publication charges.
We hope you will consider RMxAA as a venue for your future work.
Sincerely,
Javier Ballesteros-Paredes
